Mitchell, who is slated to join the firm in September, will take on the position of senior counsel and will have a regional focus. He brings with him more than 35 years of Japan-related experience and specialises in trade, investment and financing transactions within the region.
Robert Grondine, senior partner in charge of Asian M&A at White & Case, said with Japan now out of its minimal growth period and with businesses integrating with the global economy, it is the right time for Mitchell to join the firm.
"Arthur's ability to combine an intimate knowledge of the dynamics of Asian infrastructure and bank finance development gained at ADB, with the trust gained through many years of working with governments, as well as international and Japanese financial institutions in the region and globally, will prove an invaluable addition to our Asian capability," said Grondine.
Prior to joining ADB Mitchell was head of the Japan practice group at the now disbanded Coudert Brothers and once served as a private secretary to former Japanese prime minister Masayoshi Ohira.
